Blog Post #2

Social media plays a vital role in many individuals in the current generation. People post about their lifestyles, friends, family, etc. A person’s life can also change overnight because it went viral. Even though we live in the 21st century, female post is sexualized because they post sexy photos.

In the second episode of “Ways of Seeing,” John Berger mentions that women these days are still being materialized on social media by men. They are being seemed as sexual objects. Women have less control over their images in the media as the male gaze is determining them. Sexuality does play the same role in the ideas of women today, as Berger describes. The history of women getting sexualized can date back to the 1970s in Europe, where the nude paintings of women were objective by the male spectator. But the same subject of sexual pictures of women is viewed differently in another culture, superficially in Indian culture, as quoted by Berger. “Nakedness is a celebration of active loves between two people, and the women are as active as the men.”

Women’s equality has made a considerable impact, and it is still an ongoing movement.

As in the world we know today, not only women are depicted but also men are. To answer your question, I would have to say that no because I don’t think that women are being objectified the same way because in the society we live in today as women have a say in how they are being depicted meaning its her choice of how she wants to take the picture or pose for any form of image capturing.

Now that we have social media and other public empires, different types of women on different platforms use the media as ways of income but this is mostly for the male viewers and some of the pictures displayed on some profiles are not fully naked but half naked and again i will state that NO!! women are not objectified the same as Bergen explained and another reason is because on social medias such as Instagram the platform would realize any sexually suggestive content and block it from the users’ page. but as Bergen said ” to be naked is to be one self but to be nude is to be seen naked by others and yet not recognized for oneself ” this hasn’t really stopped but its number have went down from back in the 1970’s.

Social Media can be different from newspapers, books and even the weather. Social Media has taken to a whole another level by checking the websites and even knowing what’s going around the news much as weather, traffic, sports and even what’s going in the world. Social Media is letting people know what’s going on around them and to the world. For me I check the weather and the news because to know what’s going outside. More importantly knowing themselves as they own way of faction this the world and country. People would talk about the president the Vice President, Car accidents, work and even buildings that future are working on.

Social Media does not always state the true facts. It can be misleading and it can be quite detrimental to our mental health. We always have to take precautions and remind ourselves that we cannot fully rely on unreliable info that’s always being shown on social media .
